Hotel Classification

Evening Folks

Today I want to indulge you in the world of hotel classification by stars. This idea has sprung to my head because I'm right now living at a 4 star hotel. Now most of you would now be filled with envy and thinking what a little prick and what the hell is he going on about, complaining while he lives in luxury. And this would be so true and very much justified, if it wasn't for the fact that the so called 4 star hotel was situated in Turkey of all places.

So let's take it slow and from the beginning. According to the all knowing and always right Wikipedia this is what a 4 star hotel should provide as a standart to get their stars, by the way a 4 star hotel is classified FIRST CLASS. But here is a quote from Wikipedia :

In addition to the comfort star (***) hotels: - Reception opened 18 hours, accessible by phone 24 hours from inside and outside - Lobby with seats and beverage service - Breakfast buffet or breakfast menu card via room service - Minibar or 24 hours beverages via room service - Upholstered chair/couch with side table - Bath robe and slippers on demand - Cosmetic products (e.g. shower cap, nail file, cotton swabs), vanity mirror, tray of a large scale in the bathroom) - Internet access and internet terminal - "À la carte"-restaurant

Right let's see. A reception that's open 18 hours, no way. Oh and to get their third star the staff in the reception has to wear a three piece suit. HA and be bilingual (german/english) if that means trouser and short sleeve shirt and speaking a mix of german and english, then CHECK.

24 hours beverages via room service, nope that's nonexistent at my hotel where the serving of beverages stops at 2300 sharp! Bugger when you want a nightcap.

Upholstered chair/couch with side table. HA HA HA HA please stop my from laughing. Here is a picture of my so called chair!

WTF!! In my world that's a STOOL/ TABURETE!! And for the side table, I'm still looking without any luck, but who knows I might still find it in my humongous room (approximately 10 square meters)

Bathrobe and slippers and demand. Yeah right I don't even think that the guy at reception with his waiving arms and legs knows the expression On Demand and as for the cosmetic products I've got a small tube with orange contents, that should simulate shower gel.

The internet access is more or less there and the internet terminal is across from the street called Internet Cafe' and don't get me started on the A la Carte Restaurant, where everything seems to come out of a can and if it can't be bought on cans it's boiled in oil and steered together to one big mesh. Ughh..

So my conclusion is that this hotel only deserves a maximum of two stars! So I've now ordered a 40 foot ladder and will as soon it arrive go in the dusk of dawn and brutely remove to two stars that the hotel so not deserves and hang them on my wall as a token of a mission well done.

So Oba Star! Stop your false advertising and get a grip with reality!!

Sad!

Evening Folks.

Today I had to say goodbye to my Wife, who is going back to Denmark where duty calls. Been such a great thing to have her here for a week. So now it's back to being a cynical and Grumpy Old PRIK! So keep a good eye out for my next block. REPUGNANCE will PREVAIL!!!

Oh I found the perfect place to put ignorant Turks, that doesn't listen and start every sentence with : My Friend!

Not So Happy Days....

The Wife

 Hi Folks

Two nights ago my wife arrive to Alanya to visit me here during production for a week. So after working a lot of days strait I've managed to scrape together some off days and what joy it has been to be with the wife. To see everything thru her eyes has been wonderful and giving me time to reflect on this god for saken hell hole of a tourist trap.

Somethings here you gotta love though. Like this Neon dealership, wich by the share the same name as our taxi company. Ufuk Taxi. Say it quickly and you know.

So two days in the hands of the Misses is coming to the end and tomorrow will bring business as usual, but who gives a flying ufuk, when you will sleep in the arms of your loved One.

Cave, Cornetto and Hamam

Hey Folks

Things down here has been going okay, taking the Turkish standart in consideration and only a few power failures. So Jonas the Artfulslacker himself and I decided to take up on the offer that the production had put out there a coulpe of weeks ago. A free Hamam package. The Hamam is more commonly known as a Turkish Bath. So yesterday day we drove to the new marina in Alanya where the spa that provides this Hamam is located. Excited likes little kids on Christmas morning, we were chatting about how good this was going to be and how much we needed something like this to get our moods up. Arriving at the Spa we got a shock. CLOSED FOR THE DAY!!! Bugger!! Now disappointed like the same little kid on Christmas morning that got a knitted sweater, instead of the Transformer he wanted. We drove off again towards our hotel. Swearing and honking at everyone on our way.

All of the sudden I got a idea! Let's do something touristy and knew exactly what it should be! Searching my memory banks I recalled that there was a nice cave in a mountain just outside of town. So the curse was set and we flashed by the hotel and strait out of town towards the mountain. On our way up the mountain we drove on this little road with gravel here and pavement there. Getting more and excited, because there wasn't any tourist in sight. Yet again we got our hopes up to early! Because at the parking lot at the foot of the staircase leading to the cave was the TOURISTS and loads of them. Bugger Bugger Bugger! But what the hell we thought, we are already here so let's do it. And so we did to our big joy. Caves are and will always be interesting and somewhat magical.

After walking around in the cave I got a urge I haven't had in years, well 18 years approx. I wanted a ice cream, shocking myself with this urge we went to ice cream parlor and he had exactly what I wanted or almost that is : A Cornetto with raspberry. Much to my surprise I actually enjoyed it a lot! And we drove back to do some work at location.

The next day we were still a bit moody about the Hamam and decided to try again. So off we went and they were open! Yes Yes! To describe how that was would be a very difficult task and my vocabulary isn't near to justify it by any means. All I can tell you is that it was a over the moon experience. And as they say a picture says a thousand words. So feast your eyes on this :

So as you can see, we were very relaxed and are now fit for fight. So come on Alanya!! BRING IT ON!!!

By the way : We GOT our Transformer!
